It’s here, it’s here, the sunshine is FINALLY here! This is what it’s all about. Sunshine, mountains, beaches, boats and our beloved RVs. My sister and I have been moving around the Island quite a bit over the past few weeks. We’ve just settled into the wonderful Salmon Point Resort, situated half-way between Courtenay and Campbell River, and are soaking up some of the best ocean views the Island has to offer.

Salmon Point has something for everyone. We’re comfortably ensconced in one of their full hook-up RV sites (with cable TV and the very important wireless!). We’re in the ‘Waterview Row A’ which is the perfect size for our 24’ unit. For those of you with Big Rigs, their Front Row boasts sites that are 30’ wide and 60 to 80 feet deep! They are nestled under Douglas Firs and overlook the Marina. The ‘Waterview Row B’ sites have full hook-up including 30 amp power, cable & wifi. They’re also Big Rig friendly. Many of these ‘Waterview B’ sites have a view of the Georgia Strait and the Coast Mountains. The ‘Main Park’ has full hook-up and 30 amp and small tents are permitted with a unit in this area. The two other choices are in the ‘Lighthouse’ area. Some of these are located right on the beachfront. Others are non-waterfront but back onto a nature conservation area. They also offer housekeeping cottages and on-site RV accommodation.

Madge, of course, is in her element. This is a world-famous fishing area that offers saltwater and beach fishing for salmon, trout and steelhead year-round.  I, of course, prefer gentler pursuits and plan to spend a lot of my time strolling under a canopy of ancient evergreens, wandering along oceanside trails, digging for clams, and simply sitting back and watching bald eagles soar overhead as cruise ships glide past snow-capped coastal mountains. If the weather inspires me, I may take a dip in Salmon Point’s heated full size pool or, just relax with a book in one of the pool-side loungers. The pool is a delicious 80F and is sheltered by cedar trees for peace and privacy.

An added attraction here is the Salmon Point Waterfront Restaurant & Pub. It is a contemporary oceanfront West Coast style restaurant that dishes up a healthy helping of good food and unbeatable scenery. Madge and I have already spent an evening there, enjoying the best seafood chowder and caesar salad, and Georgia Strait views around.  If you’d like more information about the restaurant, or to make reservations, you can call 250-923-7272.
You can visit Salmon Point’s website at www.salmonpoint.com to check rates or request a reservation. In addition to summer fun, Salmon Point’s protected RV sites are perfect for winter camping, and our mild weather offers a great alternative for snowbirds. They are open year round and offer off-season rates. You can also contact them toll-free at 1-866-246-6605 or, locally, at 250-923-6605.

Right, time to stop writing and start living the RV lifestyle! It doesn’t get any better than this, my friends. Enjoy your Island summer!
