Tim: Hello everyone, welcome to Tim N’ Al’s RV Tech Tips, I’m Tim.
Al: And I’m Al. What are we going to talk about today Tim?
Tim: Well Al, I’d like to go over a few basic things that every RVer should know before heading out.
Al: You mean the Pre-Trip Inspection?
Tim: Nope; The RV Lifestyle is one of the best ways to get away from it all, get out with your friends and family and just take it all in. Skiing, Surfing, Fishing, whatever your sport or activity an RV will take you there. I just want to go over a few simple things that will make the “There”, that much more enjoyable.
Al: OK Tim, what do you got?
Tim: 1-Always use a water pressure regulator when hooking up to city water.
Al: RV Parks will often have very high water pressure, this high pressure can cause leaks in your RV.
Tim: 2- Never leave your black water dump valve open when hooked to a full service RV Site.
Al: An open valve will allow all the liquid waste to drain and the solid waste may build up and plug your tank. It is best to leave the valve closed and Drain/Flush the tanks when full or leaving for another destination.
Tim: 3- Make sure your unit is level with wheels blocked to prevent rolling.
Al: Failure to ensure your unit is level can damage your fridge, requiring costly repairs. Properly installed levels can make this very easy to check.
Tim: 4- Check your tire Pressure.
Al: Under inflated tires is one of the leading causes of premature tire failure and flats. Checking your tire pressure often will save you money.
Tim: 5- Keep copies of important documents.Last month, I lost my wallet while camping. What a pain in the… You - know - what.
Al: Hey, I thought you said you lost it the other night when we were out for dinner?
Tim: Ah…I didn’t say when I lost it.
Al: I’m surprised, that you, of all people, would actually lose your wallet. You’re usually so careful.
Tim: I know, I know; but it can happen to anyone, it’s never pleasant and it’s even worse if you’re away out of town or the country.
Al: What advise do you have for everyone?
Tim: Go to this website, now, before you lose your wallet, http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/lifeevents/wallet.shtml or just Google “Lost Wallet”. This Government site has an excellent list of things you should do if you lose your wallet. Even better, it advises you to photo copy all of the items in your wallet and keep them in a separate location, if you should lose your wallet you will have a full list of items you need to replace or cancel.
Al: Having a photo copy of all these items would also make them easier to replace.
Tim: I sure wish I had copies of all my stuff before I lost my wallet.
Al: If you’re traveling out of the country, it’s also a good idea to have a copy of your passport, insurances, and any pet vaccinations, and keep them in a separated location or vehicle, just in case any of the originals are lost or stolen.
Tim: If you’re traveling with friends, you should carry each others copies.
Al: If your friends are like Tim, you better make two copies.
Tim: Very funny Al. That’s all the time for today folks.
Tim and Al: Happy Camping!
