Hi Dee Ho, Island Explorers!
Well, here we are, heading into the height of the camping season on Vancouver Island. The Parks are buzzing, the days are incredibly long and the activities in every community are in full-swing. It’s an exciting time to travel!
We generally keep to the east coast of the Island, as it’s convenient for spur-of-the-moment short getaways but, every once in a while, my sister Madge and I get a hankering for the west coast, more specifically, Tofino. This is a world-class area for all things wild and, as such, a very busy place. We’ve stayed at a couple of RV parks, both on MacKenzie Beach, and I’m here to share some information about each of them. If you head their way, make sure you call to secure your spot then, hit that long and winding road to the adventure that is the Pacific Rim. Enjoy!
Crystal Cove Beach Resort
Crystal Cove Beach Resort provides year-round RV camping in style! They make sure their sites and shower house are meticulously clean and they provide everything you need to enjoy your time “roughing it” on the west coast. Their sites each have 30 amp power, sewer, and water hook ups as well as a picnic table and fire pit. Fire wood is complimentary during your stay, as are wireless internet and coffee in the mornings. They also have a Starbucks coffee bar on site; drip coffee is complimentary or you can purchase lattes and other espresso drinks (or frappuccinos in summer!). Their shower house has flush toilets and sinks and showers with running hot and cold water that you are welcome to use.
Stroll through their beautifully landscaped gardens on your way to the beach, or head to their office and lounge and browse their selection of books and DVD movies. You can also ask them about borrowing puzzles and board games. There is a courtesy computer and telephone if you need them, as well as post cards, ice, and laundry soap available for purchase. They have a coin operated Laundromat on site and are happy to make change for you. They have brochures and information about local restaurants, events, and activities, and their staff is happy to make recommendations. Their playground is just one of the family friendly features at Crystal Cove Beach Resort and is always a popular attraction for kids of all ages and at their pet friendly resort, you can bring the whole family.
Bella Pacific Campground
Bella Pacific Campground is located on beautiful, sandy MacKenzie Beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island, Bella Pacifica Campground is the destination of choice for families visiting Tofino, Long Beach and Pacific Rim National Park. Their private oceanfront and wilderness setting enables you to experience the wonder of the Old Growth forests and the pristine beaches famous to the area.
They are open for the 2015 season from February 27th – November 2nd. Bella Pacifica has a variety of camping and RV sites, each with their own picnic table and firepit. Advance reservations are required for summer camping and are recommended throughout the season.
Their convenient on site facilities include 3 clean and spacious washroom buildings with flush toilets and pay showers. There are also laundry facilities, public pay phones and both ice and firewood are available for purchase at the Campground Office. Their family focus enables them to offer a quiet time from 10:00pm to 8:00am and Management lives on site in case of any emergencies. All dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times.
There you have it. Only a couple of options but both on a wonderful beach and very close to the town of Tofino, where you can experience many tour, shopping and dining options.
All the best of the summer to you!
