Hi Dee Ho, Snowbirds & Island RV’ers!

Well, it’s that time of year, isn’t it? Some of you are winterizing and tucking your RV up for a few months. Others will be enjoying the Island right through the winter months. Wait, did I say WINTER? There’s a reason why Vancouver Island welcomes so many Canadians from other parts of the country from now through Spring. There are quite a few RV Resorts that remain open year-round and, one of our favourites, Pacific Playgrounds, located between Courtenay and Campbell River, is perfectly situated to take in the winter storms, ski Mount Washington or golf.

As per usual, my sister Madge an I are on the fence. Do we stay and enjoy our Chemainus Gardens home base while continuing to explore the Island in our RV? Or, do we join the thousands of snowbirds flying south?

We decided to take an exploratory trip to the desert this past week, to find out for ourselves what all the fuss is about. Well, let me tell you, now we get it! We landed at Palm Springs Airport on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Yes, we know it’s the desert and, yes, it’s probably mostly always sunny, but for us it was a lovely treat, having left the Island on a particulary blustery day.

There is so much to do in this beautiful area but, this trip was about relaxation recon and rather than dash to-and-fro shopping, golfing, dining, hiking and exploring, we chose to settle in and just…..be.

We discovered a true, get-away-from-it-all escape. It’s name pretty much sums it up – The Oasis Palms RV Resort. Located in the Coachella Valley, near the Salton Sea, the Oasis Palms is truly a desert Oasis offering spacious, pet-friendly RV lots. Like RV’ers everywhere, the Oasis team are great at hospitality. They offer free coffee and treats every morning, in the lobby. In the afternoon, they host a Happy Hour so that guests can get together and enjoy a bonfire.

Other welcome amenities at this RV Resort include FREE wifi throughout the entire park, a heated pool, laundromat, tennis court, game room and clean bathrooms with showers. Their all-inclusive rates start at $240US weekly/$700 monthly. These rates cover your electric, water and sewage. They also offer discounts for 2+ month bookings.

Madge and I returned to the Island with lots to ponder. Will we stay or will we go? Check in to the Island RV Guide again to find out!

TTFN,

Roada
