When in Coombs

What started as a roadside stand has evolved into a full-blown attraction. Featuring a market with many local products, from produce to art, you’ll find something unique around every corner at the Coombs Old Country Market.

There’s more than just a sandwich counter at this market, featuring three restaurants including, La Taqueria Mexican Cantina, a fast-casual taste of Mexico. Right across the way, you’ll find Cuckoo Trattoria & Pizzeria, featuring authentic Italian dishes. Third on the list is the original, The Market Restaurant, featuring the standard old favourites, burgers, soups, breakfast, fish & chips and more, and they also have a seasonal patio that welcomes your pups!

If your sweet tooth needs attention, there are three great spots to take care of that as well. The Market Bakery has bread, pies, macaroons, pastries, and other desserts, but you’ll want to pick up a Bee Sting – a danish filled with bavarian cream and drizzled with caramel. If something cold is what you’re after, The Billy Gruff Creamery has you covered. With a huge selection of ice cream, and homemade gelato and sorbetto.

To cap off your dessert tour, there is Billy G’s Donut Shop – who doesn’t love a delicious craft donut? Made fresh daily, they often sell out early so make sure you get there in time to pick up a Billy Gruff Bomber – caramel filling topped with bacon!

Last but certainly not least, the goats on the roof! Catch a glimpse of Minion, Nibbles, and Willy as they take care of the lawn, on the roof – which is also another unique feature! They might just be the biggest celebrities in the area!

Open daily from March to December, the market is located at 2326 Alberni Highway in Coombs – stop in on your way to Port Alberni, or make a quick trip from your campsite in Parksville!
